Thurmond

This Southern West Virginia ghost town was once a major rail line for the Eastern United States. And in the early 1900's there was more freight handled through the C&O then any other depot between Richmond, VA, and Cincinnati, OH. Thurmond was once known for it wildness and was famous not only for its coal, but for its liquor, gambling as well. Today it is a part of the New River Gorge National River, the depot has been restored to serve as the park's visitor center. You can learn more about the park, and it's location here in West Virginia by visit the web site at http://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/thurmond.htm
